When I’m not walking dogs or managing Little Red Dog, you’ll usually find me rambling through the woods or fussing a four-legged rogue – often even my own small but mighty Parson’s Jack Russell terrier, Brock!
I’ve loved, lived with, and trained dogs throughout my life, with a variety of dogs, from pastoral breeds and lurchers, to (bravely!) terriers.
My professional experience spans working with wolves at the UK Wolf Conservation Trust (delivering husbandry and studying wolf behaviour), caring for temporarily kennelled dogs at Heathrow Airport Animal Reception Centre, and numerous other animal-focused roles.
I hold an FdSc in Animal Behaviour and Welfare, a BSc (Hons) in Animal Conservation Science, and a PhD in chemical ecology, bringing the same lively curiosity, integrity, and dedication from my academic background to my work with dogs. I’m currently working to expand my practical dog-training and behaviour-modification skills through formal study with the Karen Pryor Academy.
Since the age of nineteen I have worked as a zookeeper at Twycross Zoo, gaining over 21 years of practical, hands-on experience with animals. Whilst my specialism is in primate care, I have also worked with numerous other animals, including reptiles, insects, and domestic pets.
A key part of my work has been providing enrichment for purposes ranging from basic care and behaviour management, to diet delivery. I am an experienced animal trainer, using positive reinforcement techniques to make husbandry less stressful for both handler and animal.
I have always shared my life with a variety of gundogs and hounds, and most recently had the joy of being owned by my beloved smooth-haired miniature dachshund, Eugene, whose memory I treasure.
I hold an NPTC in animal care, a BTEC First Diploma in Animal Care, a City & Guilds qualification in kennel craft, and an NVQ Level 2 in customer care.
